About Me
Hello! My name is Carly, and I'm a program manager for the School of Russian and Asian Studies, an education abroad organization dedicated to providing enriching academic and cultural experiences for students of Russian, history, political science, and more. I hold an MA in international education management at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey. My background is in Russian language and intercultural communication studies. I have experience living, studying and/or working in Ukraine, Russia and Uzbekistan, and have traveled extensively throughout Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia
Growing up, playing sports was always one of the fundamental shaping blocks of my youth. However, as I transitioned from childhood into adolescence, and adolescence into adulthood, I began to notice the many subtle and overt ways that women are devalued and discriminated in athletics, and how this reflected larger social issues of sexism, stereotyping, and diminishing women and girls who seek to empower themselves through traditionally "masculine" endeavors. From my own experiences with gender discrimination, especially in athletics, I discovered a passion for empowering women and girls through education, leadership, and teamwork skills. I am always curious and eager to become involved with opportunities for advancing young women through innovative educational opportunities.
